Event: This Android’s Life
*NOTE THE LOCATION* Our first speaker of 2012 may be from Cheddar, but this ain’t no cheesy session! Ross Scott is one of the co-ordinators of DDD South West in Bristol. He has almost a decade of experience developing software on the Microsoft stack, but has recently discovered the joys of developing for Android. This is an exciting session to kick off the New Year, and to welcome us into 2012 we’ll be enjoying food courtesy of the folks at Red Gate Software. Join us for swag, prizes and food that isn’t pizza!

If you are not a member of NxtGenUG, you are more than welcome to attend. We just ask you register on the site, to help us to plan numbers and refreshments. Once registered on the site, you can then register for this event from this page.

Event Breakdown
Ross Scott This Android’s Life
Mobile phone applications are now ubiquitous and as developers we need to ensure we don't miss the huge opportunities that are now available to us.

One of the simplest routes to targeting all mobile devices is HTML5, JQuery Mobile and PhoneGap. So we will start by taking a look at these technologies.
If you need to take advantage of phone features (on Android) that aren't available from HTML then you will need become familiar with Java and Eclipse. So we will start by understanding the underlying architecture and lifecycle of the Android platform. We will then look at how we can target this platform using Java or C# with Mono for Android.

I'm really enjoying working on Android and I hope I will convey this during my session.
