Event: Halloween 'Spooktacular' ...
.NET 'Wizard' Liam Westley looks at the 'ghost' in the machine as he dives into Windows and looks at developing Windows Services. Remember those? Well, in case you hadn't noticed they're all around us in the development world, but hard to see and hard to capture with a debugger! Liam shows us how we can make our lives easier when writing and working with Windows Services including some of the differences between NT and Windows Vista Services. Other scary things to see on the night: Spicy Pizzas, A Nuggets of Wisdom and of course the now patented 'Swag Distibute-o-Meter'...

If you are not a member of NxtGenUG, you are more than welcome to attend. We just ask you register on the site, to help us to plan numbers and refreshments. Once registered on the site, you can then register for this event from this page.

Event Breakdown
Liam Westley Programming With Dinosaurs
Having 'fun' with Windows Services and the Event Log (spawned with Windows NT 3.1). We start with an overview of Event Log essentials, required by Windows services. Then straight onto testing and debugging strategies for Windows services to greatly simplify development. Once we have our service, we will install it; covering service configuration and tricks to make multiple installations of the same service a breeze. Advanced topics include managing master/slave service scenarios on load balanced servers, custom commands and running your service underneath a refreshing ASP.NET page so that you can 'host' a service on your ISP web server. Expect lots of code and minimal slide-ware.
Chris Hay The Road to IL - Part 1
C# 3.0 has some great new features which form the building blocks of LINQ. If you want to know LINQ, you need to know about these features first. So, in the first of a series of Nuggets we will cover Automatic Properties. If you are thinking, yeah, yeah mister, I know this stuff already, then don't worry we will be going a little deeper and cover what is happening behind the scenes. With it being halloween we might do something a little scary (yep that's right a little IL).
