Cornish pasties and now faggot and pea batches. What next? Haggis!

Convivial, friendly, can't blame you for the crap weather

Guy's idea to surprise us with the food was a great idea and maybe should be a regular feature (although the caterer could stress about that)! Even if folk are not sure about eating things like faggot and pea batches or whatever, we are there for the technical content not the food and it was a nice touch.

It really didn't matter that Guy had a seriously bad cough, I thought the content and delivery went very smoothly. I liked that Guy compared the options with clear pros and cons and stressed that whilst certain tools were a bit flaky at the moment, it was the methodology that we need to look at and understand. Oh and the faggot and pea batches were a good idea too. I would not go out of my way to eat them again but in the spirit of doing something different and the little story behind them was a nice personal touch from Guy and appreciated. Thanks - hope the cough has subsided now.

Would have been a 9, if you'd been in B'ham.

GSF is a great presenter. Despite his dodgy voice this evening he came up with the goods. Already familliar with WinForms internaltionalisation and was curious to see if WPF was at least as good if not better than WinForms. Pleased to see rex remains as I like that solutions - LocBAML was an interesting alternative - not entirely sure why I would choose that over resx though.

Guy Smith-Ferrier Internationalizing WPF and Silverlight Applications
The .NET Framework has supported internationalization since 1.0 but with each new UI platform comes a new approach and new challenges. Unlike Windows Forms and ASP.NET, WPF does not offer one standard solution to localization. Instead it offers choices. This session shows how to localize WPF applications using standard .resx files and how to localize ‘post-build’ using LocBaml with and without Resource Dictionaries. In addition you will see how to localize a Silverlight application using .resx files and we will consider issues that are specific to Silverlight. We will evaluate the pros and cons of each approach and arm you with the information required to form a localization strategy for your applications.
